Weekly News Update for the Week of November 25th-December 1st 2008
Do you work all day and have no time or energy to find out what's going on in the world? Do you get bored and impatient watching TV anchors tell you over and over what's going on? Do you sometimes care more about what Britney Spears is doing than what President Bush said during his State of the Union address? If you answered yes to even one of these questions this is what you've been waiting for! Every week I'm going to give you a quick rundown of the past week's biggest headlines. I won't bore you with minute details and shove tons of information down your throats. These are just the facts with a little humor for measure! And if you want to know more you can always just Google it or ask me.
It's Britney's World, and We're All Just Living In It:
It's Britney b*tch, and she's taking over the world. The pop star may not want to call it a comeback, but it's shaping up to be one (as long as she doesn't fall into crazy mode again). Tuesday, December 2nd is a big day for Ms. Spears: She is turning the big 2-7 and is also dropping her new album, Circus. She's been keeping busy promoting her not-comeback by appearing on the covers of Rolling Stone and Glamour, and performing shows throughout Europe. And Brit Brit's big documentary, Britney: For the Record aired last night on MTV. If you missed you can try to YouTube or catch it while MTV loops it indefinitely!
I received some comments regarding my lack of acknowledging the new Guns N' Roses album, Chinese Democracy. I did not accidentally forget this, I just actively chose to ignore it. Reviews of the long-awaited album (it was 13 years in the making) have been mixed, sales have been poor (the Killers outsold them), Axl is the only remaining original member left, and I didn't want to tarnish the awesome reputation of a band that gave us "Welcome to the Kingdom" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". So now you know...they have a new album. And Dr. Pepper promised a free soda for anyone who bought the album but failed to deliver. All together very disappointing. But don't worry...Blender Magazine came out with its list of 2008's top albums.
Project Runway's favorite offspring, Christan Siriano will be designing a line of shoes and purses for Payless. Woohoo...fierce fashions for less! Brooke Burke, former E! Wild On host, just won this season's Dancing With the Stars. Not only did she show some little know dance skills, but proved that she made a pact with the devil (no one after 4 kids looks that good)! Speaking of baby-making...Mariah Carey may be pregnant. She adamantly denies it, but during a taping of the Ellen show the diva refused (and then faked) a sip of champagne. That Ellen sure is super tricky trying to get the truth out of Mariah...we'll see if any announcements are made! Former TRL host Carson Daly and girlfriend, Siri Pinter, are expecting their first child.
Rosie O'Donnell's variety show came and went. The ratings were so low that only 1 episode aired, and the show was cancelled. I guess people finally see the truth...that Rosie is one angry and mean woman!
Jennifer Hudson's, ex-brother-in-law, William Balfour, has officially been charged with the murder of her mother, sister and nephew. Tina Fey has finally spoken out about the large scar on her cheek. Although she won't get into specifics she admitted that when she was 5 years old she was playing outside and a neighbor with a knife just came up and slashed her face (in the moment she thought she was just marked with a pen). Pretty scary stuff :p Amy Winehouse's soon-to-be ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, just admitted during an interview that he's the reason the singer became addicted to cocaine and heroine. Before meeting him, Amy apparently only smoked pot but fell heavily into drug use after trying some of his cocaine. Good job Blake...way to ruin a potentially historic talent!
I am a DVR junkie, and I am proud of it. Here are my recommendations for you to record: Wednesday, Dec. 3rd the Victoria's Secret "fashion" show at 10 p.m. EST on CBS and Thursday, Dec. 4th Barbara Walters' '10 Most Fascinating People' at 10 p.m. EST on ABC. I also heart a great commercial and the new Adidas commercial just kills it. See if you can spot all the big names!

The Office of President-elect Barack Obama:
President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave another exclusive interview, this time to Barbara Walters. Obama announced his foreign policy team and also officially announced a big chunk of his cabinet picks. Chief of staff-Rahm Emmanuel, Senior advisers-David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett, Press Secretary-Robert Gibbs, Office of Management and Budget: Peter Orszag, UN Ambassador: Susan Rice, Secretary of State-Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary: Robert Gates, National Security Adviser: James Jones, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Attorney General-Eric Holder, and Secretary of Homeland Security-Janet Napolitano.
President George W. Bush performed one of his final presidential duties by granting pardons to 14 people. President Bush has pardoned significantly fewer people than past presidents. Some of his pardons were to convicted drug sellers, rappers, embezzlers, and even a bald eagle killer, but no real high-profile criminals. First Lady, Laura Bush , has confirmed that she will be writing a memoir.
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) the U.S. is officially in a recession. Thanks for pointing out the obvious, geniuses! The economic hard times are affecting everyone...even celebrities. General Motors ended their 9-year endorsement deal with Tiger Woods in order to save money. What will Tiger do now? He does have a family to take care of!

News Potpourri:
I'll leave you with some quick news tidbits that couldn't fit either here or there so they're getting their own paragraph! December 1st marks World AIDS Day. You can see how people around the world acknowledged the day. Mumbai, India suffered its deadliest terrorist attack in 15 years. A gang of terrorists, trained in nearby Pakistan, took over the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel, and a newly settled Chabad House, and specifically targeted people with U.S. and British passports. This attack claimed the lives of over 170 people. In respect of this tragedy, the Live Earth India concert has been cancelled. Remember the Jim Carrey movie, The Truman Show? Well now doctors are starting to diagnose patients with "Truman Syndrome" where people believe their lives are being taped for reality TV. If this is a legit disease then half of Hollywood is seriously ill! Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaugh's x-mas movie, 4 Christmases, came in #1 at the box office kicking the tween sensation Twilight back to 2nd place. A Miami judge ruled against a ban on gay adoption stating that it was unconstitutional. For all you Batman fans...Bruce Wayne dies. Yeah I said it. He dies in the latest comic book issue, and Robin will most likely take over. Didn't see that one coming, huh?!? Broadway may be suffering from slumping ticket sales, but at least it still cares about the environment. The Great White Way is going green by using new, environmentally friendly bulbs and recycled items for the stages. For some people the best part of Thanksgiving is the food and for others it is the huge sales day on the following Friday, called Black Friday. Unfortunately people didn't spend as much as expected...hello recession. But the worst news comes from Long Island where a mob of people took it too far and trampled a WalMart employee to death in order to get into the store quickly! As you may know I'm a huge fan of Beyonce's video for "Single Ladies"...well your video of the week takes it to a whole other level!
I hope this gives you an idea of what's going on in the world. Buck up...it's not so bad! Britney's back, and Turkey Day has passed...only 21 days till Hanukkah and 24 days till Christmas. All is right with the world!
Now go and have an intellectually stimulating conversation with your neighbor about what you've just learned.

I hate Blender and their stupid lists. Once you say 2Pac is overrated...you lose me.
