T-Time
Weekly News Update for the Week of October 14-20th 2008

Do you work all day and have no time or energy to find out what's going on in the world? Do you get bored and impatient watching TV anchors tell you over and over what's going on? Do you sometimes care more about what Britney Spears is doing than what President Bush said during his State of the Union address? If you answered yes to even one of these questions this is what you've been waiting for! Every week I'm going to give you a quick rundown of the past week's biggest headlines. I won't bore you with minute details and shove tons of information down your throats. These are just the facts with a little humor for measure! And if you want to know more you can always just Google it or ask me.

*October 29th will mark the 1-year anniversary of T-Time. It's hard to believe that I've been filling your brains with both so much useful and useless information for a whole year! I'll be celebrating the big occasion on Saturday, November 8th...location and time TBD...so please mark your calendars and be on the lookout for an invite!

Stars in and out of Love:

It's official and officially sad...Madonna and her husband of over 7.5 years, Guy Ritchie, have called it quits. No real reason has been given, and no settlement has been reached yet (apparently there's no prenup, and Madonna hired the same lawyer who represented Paul McCartney in his massive divorce). Tensions over being separated so much, her desire to adopt another child, his desire to stay in London instead of moving to the U.S., and just the fact that they're pretty much polar opposites would be my guesses as to why their marriage failed. Now all those A-Rod rumors seem just a little more likely. Oh the twisted world of celebrity relationships. First David Duchovny randomly enters rehab for sex addiction claiming it wasn't about cheating on his wife Tea Leoni, and she was by his side supporting him through his treatment. Then it surfaces that the couple are getting divorced, followed by news that the divorce is due to her relationship with former co-star Billy Bob Thorton, followed by the news that they've actually been separated for some time and Duchovny was actually seeing his much younger tennis instructor. Whoa! Jennifer Aniston can't seem to find luck in the love department. Ever since her split from the God known as Brad Pitt she's had a string of failed relationships. But she's not going to go down without a fight. Despite a breakup which was followed by a somewhat public embarrassment on behalf of John Mayer, the couple seem to be rekindling their relationship. They have been seen all over NYC and LA. Maybe she believes in 2nd chances...Singer Nelly Furtado announced that she got married to producer, Demacio Catellonin. The only thing is they got married back in July! See how easy it is to keep a secret when you genuinely want to?!? Whoever said that reality TV love isn't real never met Trista and Ryan Sutter. The couple not only lasted after her stint as the Bachelorette, but they got married and had a super cute son. And now the couple is expecting their 2nd child. Mazel Tov!

You know you're real rock legends when you continue making headlines and you're in your 60s! Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr, announced that he will no longer be signing autographs (don't even bother sending in a request). He claims he's too busy and has other priorities. Wow...I always knew he was one of the more pompous Beatles, but this takes the cake! Not to be outshone, the cuter and more popular Beatle, Paul McCartney, has found love again after his horrific marriage to gold-digger Heather Mills ended in an ugly divorce. He has just moved in with his girlfriend of over a year, Nancy Shevell. Another oldie but goodie, Maureen McCormick, a.k.a. Marcia Brady, released a tell-all book where she admits to drinking and doing drugs and having affairs with the likes of her TV brother Greg, Michael Jackson, and Steve Martin. I just can't wait for Britney's tell-all!!!

Slowly and surely all the hottest male stars are being stolen away by women and babies. The most recent victim is Mark Wahlberg. Despite having 3 kids with model, girlfriend Rhea Durham, the couple never officially settled down. Well your chance of ever seeing him in his Calvins is over now since he announced that the 2 will wed next August. In case seeing Brad Pitt in a loin cloth in Troy wasn't enough for all you animals, the star has signed on to play Odysseus! Sean Penn proved yet again that he's not the sharpest tool in the shed by visiting Venezuelan dictator, Hugo Chavez, for the 2nd time. What exactly is he trying to prove?

Both Travis Barker and DJ AM are slowly recovering from their horrific and fatal plane crash. DJ AM made his first public appearance at a party in his honor and announced that he will be touring with Jay Z. Travis Barker had to stay in the hospital a while longer due to the extent of his injuries, but he was just released and is expected to make a full recovery. Finally fans got a reason for all of Janet Jackson's cancelled tour dates...vestibular migraines that caused vertigo. Hopefully she'll get better soon and continue on with her tour.

The 2008 American Music Award (AMA) nominations were announced. If you want to see if your fave artist made the list you can check it out here. The actual awards show will air Sunday, November 23rd at 8/7c on ABC. The L from TLC, Lisa, Left Eye, Lopes is releasing an album posthumously. Not sure what took so long, or if there's still a market out there for her music. Britney Spears's comeback is doing well...very well actually! Womanizer is her first #1 single since Baby, One More Time! Let's see how long this sane version lasts!

15 Days and Counting:

Finally! The debates are over! The election is so close! I know I'm not the only one who's tired of all of this...the campaigning has been going on for over a year!!! The 3rd and final debate was a little feistier and a little more personal, but it was also still full of talking points. If you missed it you can check it out here. The true star of the debate was "Joe the Plumber". What started as an innocent question from the plumber to Senator Barack Obama became a central point in every answer at the debate! Senator Obama is leading in the polls and has raised another record amount for his campaign (~$150M for the month of September). The Obama campaign is also getting clever with their advertising...they actually have "billboard ads" in the Xbox game, Burnout Paradise. Another positive for their campaign...former Secretary of State Colin Powell officially endorsed Obama for President.

Both candidates attended the Al Smith dinner and roasted one another...it's actually pretty hysterical and endearing. Senator John McCain had the attendees rolling in their seats, as did Senator Obama! It's nice to see the candidates let loose and genuinely have a good time!

Well she actually did it! GOP VP candidate Governor Sarah Palin made her first appearance on Saturday Night Live, and it was pretty funny. She didn't actually perform as a character, but she did take part in 2 sketches where she was made fun of! The first clip is pretty funny, but the 2nd one is truly hysterical one, and there's even some backstage footage. Senator McCain finally made it on with David Letterman after taking a public lashing for cancelling during the financial crisis but still going on with Katie Couric. A Tennessee man named his daughter Sarah McCain Palin in support of the GOP ticket but against his wife's wishes...would a bumper sticker be that bad of an alternative?!?

Senator Hillary Clinton did a couple of interviews where she claimed that she has no interest in running for President again or being on the Supreme Court, but I think she's just playing her role as supportive Democratic party member instead of bitter arch-rival! Former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, was hospitalized for breaking her pelvis but has already been released. If you're concerned with the future of the Supreme Court under a new administration this is a really good breakdown of the possibilities. With the drama with ACORN (Mickey Mouse was registered to vote) and other possible voter fraud in Ohio continuing...I have a feeling that election night will be full of drama! Oliver Stone's new movie about the current President, W., didn't do as well as expected. Don't be surprised...people go to the movies to escape reality, not deal with it for another 2 hours!

News Potpourri:

I'll leave you with some quick news tidbits that couldn't fit either here or there so they're getting their own paragraph! Here's my take on the economic situation. One day the Dow is up, and the next day it's down. I hope that's helpful. There is talk that a sequel to the movie Wall Street with Michael Douglas may be in the works. French President Nicolas Sarkozy's bank account was hacked into. If the French president's bank account and Sarah Palin's email account aren't safe from hackers, then what is? And what are they paying all that security for?!? The infamous Mr. Blackwell, the man who published the annual worst dressed list and made many a celebrity cry, died at the age of 86. Finally Beverly Hills Chihuahua was dethroned from its #1 place at the box office...Mark Wahlberg's new movie Max Payne took the top spot! CNN announced that comedian/actor D.L. Hughley will be hosting a political variety show, similar to The Daily Show, for their network. A small study proved that the classic disco hit Stayin Alive is the perfect rhythm to do CPR compressions to...it's too ironic for words! Project Runway named this season's winner, and Leanne Marshall took the grande prize. First NY and then LA hosted its Fashion Week. You can check out some of the shows here.

I hope this gives you an idea of what's going on in the world. Buck up…it's not so bad! You have a fun and busy 2 weeks ahead: 11 days till Halloween, 13 days till the NYC Marathon, 15 days till the election, and 19 days till T-Time's 1-year anniversary party! All is right with the world!

Now go and have an intellectually stimulating conversation with your neighbor about what you've just learned.
