T-Time
Weekly News Update for the Week of December 2-8 2008

Do you work all day and have no time or energy to find out what's going on in the world? Do you get bored and impatient watching TV anchors tell you over and over what's going on? Do you sometimes care more about what Britney Spears is doing than what President Bush said during his State of the Union address? If you answered yes to even one of these questions this is what you've been waiting for! Every week I'm going to give you a quick rundown of the past week's biggest headlines. I won't bore you with minute details and shove tons of information down your throats. These are just the facts with a little humor for measure! And if you want to know more you can always just Google it or ask me.

No Mas O.J....Better Get Your Vitamin C Somewhere Else:

Well it has finally happened…O.J. Simpson was punished for a crime he committed! The Juice has been sentenced to prison after attempting to retrieve memorabilia that was "rightfully his" with the aide of a few thugs and guns. Orenthal James Simpson could serve anywhere between 9 and 33 years behind bars! He was offered a plea deal but was too c*cky to accept. Sucker! Whatever happened to just calling and asking for your stuff back?!?

Britney's comeback is definitely accomplishing its goals. Her new album is expected to sell big, she has been busy making appearances everywhere, and she just announced that she's going back out on tour. But all the momentum shouldn't be credited to her blood, sweat and tears. Her documentary was lackluster (she didn't answer the really juicy questions, and the ratings were pretty low), she has lip synched (and poorly at that) every performance, and she barely answers questions during interviews. I don't know if this Spears 2.0 is ready for all of this again :p And don't forget that the past will always come back to haunt you! Brit Brit's first husband (the one who only lasted 55 hours), Jason Alexander, landed his butt in jail for violating his parole. She sure knows how to pick 'em!

Not surprising at all...Oprah was just named the most powerful woman in entertainment. I think she should just own the title...I doubt there's anyone who could actually take that away from her! The Jolie-Pitts proved their perfection yet again. They just donated $100,000 to their foundation, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. And the cherry on their perfect sundae? Jolie was just named the highest paid actress in Hollywood ahead of Reese Witherspoon and Julia Roberts!

I'm not sure if anyone really cares, but if you do…Lindsay Lohan and her girlfriend Samantha Ronson have not split. At least not according to Lohan's MySpace blog. Amy Winehouse is apparently getting divorced from her incarcerated druggie husband. The damage has been done…hopefully she'll clean herself up and keep on singing. Actors Dylan McDermott and Shiva Rose have finalized their divorce. And Katie Holmes ex, Chris Klein has split from his actress girlfriend and Holmes lookalike, Ginnifer Goodwin. America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker and his wife Christen have just welcomed their 2nd child, daughter Jasmine Ines. Anne Heche and the man she left her husband for are expecting their 1st child together. I guess she's officially no longer a lesbian!

TV Time...excellent! NBC is doing a little reshuffling of its late night schedule. As many of you may know Conan O'Brien was going to take over for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show and SNL alum Jimmy Fallon was going to take over for Conan on Late Night. Most of the drama was over what Leno would do. Well now it looks like Leno is staying but getting his own show at 10 p.m., and then he'll be followed by O'Brien and Fallon respectively. That sounds like one funny lineup! For now you can check out Fallon's video blog...it's supposed to introduce the audience to the soon-to-be new host. For all you Gossip Girl fans...talks about a spinoff are reaching fever pitch. Most people are betting that the Jenny Humphrey character will be getting her own show! And if you just D.I.E. for Rachel Zoe you'll be happy to hear that her show is coming back to Bravo for a 2nd season.

Hugh Hefner's daughter, Christie Hefner, has stepped down as Playboy's Chairman and CEO. That's quite the family business to get into! Maybe one of the girls next door can fill her spot?!? Rumors are swirling whether Vogue's editor in chief and inspiration for Devil Wears Prada, Anna Wintour, is leaving the fashion mag. Insiders say 'yes', but she's denying. Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski is asking the U.S. gov't to drop rape charges stemming from 20 years ago when he was accused of sleeping with a 13-year old girl. Instead of facing punishment he fled for Europe and has yet to step foot back in the U.S. Why are all the talented ones so messed up (cough cough Woody Allen)? And speaking of oldies but goodies…Cher announced that she will release a new album of 60s covers.

Aside from all the family quality time and presents, the best part of the holiday season is all about the upcoming awards season. Now's the time when all the nominations are announced! The Grammys announced their list for the best in music. Lil' Wayne and Coldplay got the most love, but you can check out all the other nominees. And the IFC Spirit Award nominations have also been named. And just for fun, here's the NYPost's list of 2008's top 10 worst movies!

The NY Times Magazine has compiled a great list of some actors, artists, etc giving "screen tests"/intimate interviews. Really fun for all you celebrity-obsessed folks.

The Office of President-elect Barack Obama:

The seemingly perfect President-elect has an Achilles heel…he's still struggling with quitting smoking. During an interview with Tom Brokaw, on MSNBC's Meet the Press, Barack admitted that he sometimes still falls off the wagon but will do his best to not smoke in the White House. Fun fact…former First Lady and current Sec. of State pick Hillary Clinton banned smoking in the White House during her tenure. All you fashionistas can breathe easy because Obama already has his tux in the works for Inauguration Day. Chicago-based designer Hart Schaffner Marx, who made all of Obama's suits during the campaign, will be making a brand-new one for the big day. And Obama's former campaign manager, David Plouffe, will be writing a book about the soon-to-be Prez and the almost perfect campaign tentatively entitled The Audacity to Win, a play on Obama's best-selling The Audacity of Hope.

New Mexico governor and former Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson has officially been named as Obama's pick for Secretary of Commerce. So now that Clinton is joining the Obama administration the big question is who will fill her NY Senate seat. The most talked about candidate so far has been none other than Caroline Kennedy, daughter of JFK and niece of Senator Ted Kennedy. I doubt she'll take it, but it would be interesting if she did! And what better way to celebrate Hillary's big move than with an Amy Poehler/SNL skit!

The Georgia Senate race is finally over. Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss defeated Democratic candidate Jim Martin in the runoff election. Now we're still waiting for Minnesota to pick their Senator!

The Big 3 automakers are still begging the gov't for a bailout. The trillions has gone down to billions and now it's down to millions. Maybe if they hadn't arrived in separate private jets the people would genuinely feel bad for them. But at least they're learning a lesson. For the 2nd round of hearings/begging all 3 CEOs arrived in cars, and GM and Ford are now selling their corporate jets. Let's see how much of the taxpayers' good money they'll get their greedy hands on!

A new host for MSNBC's Meet the Press has finally been named. The show has been temporarily hosted by Tom Brokaw since the untimely death of Tim Russert. But now it's official…David Gregory will be the new host of the longest running show on television. And in case the show is too intense for you…you can check all the useless news that doesn't really matter here.

News Potpourri:

I'll leave you with some quick news tidbits that couldn't fit either here or there so they're getting their own paragraph! If you use Facebook watch out for a virus called Koobface spreading through the network. It will send you a message "from" a friend, send you to another site, and then make you download a program. Don't do it! Amsterdam is doing the unthinkable. The gov't is closing down many of their "cafes" and parts of their Red Light District in order to fight organized crime. Their crime levels may go down but so will tourism! 99.9% of people who go to Amsterdam do so for 2 reasons...pot and legal sex...just saying! Olympian Michael Phelps has been named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. It's the first time a swimmer has been given this honor. One athlete not getting too many honors is Giants star Plaxico Burress who accidentally shot himself in the leg at a club 2 weeks ago, and now he has been benched for the season. To prove how many loopholes there are in our system a newspaper temporarily stole the Empire State building. The Daily News filled out paperwork with fake information and for a hot 90-minutes or so they actually owned the iconic building! Kind of scary…makes you think! The picturesque Italian city of Venice has been ravaged by flooding (the worse in 20 years)…the city was submerged for a few days. But the water has finally subsided! A study at Northwestern University has released a report stating that homosexuality is an "inborn combination of genetic and environmental factors". If you like the NY Times and/or coffee…you'll appreciate this little bit of art. Burger King's new campaign, Whopper Virgin, is taking a new approach to the famous "taste test". Representatives went to remote villages around the world and asked locals who have never tasted, seen, or even heard of hamburgers to try both a Whopper and Big Mac and choose. The result is really interesting…so here's your video of the week.

I hope this gives you an idea of what's going on in the world. Buck up…it's not so bad! The tree at Rockefeller Center has been lit and Ben Stiller has hinted at a possible Zoolander 2! All is right with the world!

Now go and have an intellectually stimulating conversation with your neighbor about what you've just learned.
